Paralysis of a non-physical type (meaning you still have all of your motor skills) can be caused by any number of things, a dead end job, bad people you surround yourself with, a lifestyle that just doesn't work for you, the list could go on and on. The major point that I see Althucher making here is to take small steps. If your trying to save for retirement and are behind your goals your likely not going to hit the lottery and make it all up. If you step back and reassess your situation and devise a new plan of attack then you have likely increased your odds of success.
