Best and Worst Performing Nasdaq 100 Stocks YTD

Listening to CNBC today I was shocked to hear that Priceline.com $PCLN is close to the $700 mark.  Apple $AAPL with all of its media attention at $600 per share is often scoffed at because of it's high price tag which is completely unwarranted.  Apple trades at a forward P/E of 12.6 vs. Priceline at 18 which from a P/E valuation standpoint Apple appears to be the cheaper of the two.  Obviously there is more to valuation than just a P/E ratio but my point here is that you cannot go by price alone.

All of this brings me to data that Bespoke put out today Best And Worst Performing Nasdaq 100 Stocks YTD. We have already experienced the run up in Apple this year in the DWCM fund by owning call options but the stock itself is up 48.6% while Priceline is up 48.1%

One interesting aspect of the year's list of best performing Nasdaq 100 stocks is how many high priced stocks are on the list.  As shown above, four of the ten names on the list have share prices in the triple digits.  Currently, there are thirteen stocks in the Nasdaq 100 that have share prices above $100.  Of those thirteen names, the only one that is down year to date is Google (GOOG).  Combined, these thirteen stocks are up an average of 24.56% compared to an average YTD change of 17.11% for all 100 stocks in the Nasdaq 100.
