Jim Rogers 17 Keys to Success

For those of you that don't of Jim Rogers he has had a very successful career as an investor.  Mr. Rogers if often seen on CNBC and is quoted in most major financial publication.  You can check out his site here.

Below is a post he put together from his book "A Gift To My Children" where he lists his 17 Keys to Success, (my comments are in blue)
1. Do not let others do your thinking for you This point cannot be stressed enough especially at a young age.  However you are never old enough to find your own voice
2. Focus on what you like This is something out of the Steve Jobs hand book (see post Find What You Love)
3. Good habits for life & investing
4. Common sense? not so common
5. Attention to details is what separates success from failure
6. Let the world be a part of your perspective
7. Learn philosophy & learn to think Continuous education at any age
8. Learn history Probably just as important is to understand history
9. Learn languages (make sure Mandarin is one of them) This is good advice weather you like China or not
10. Understand your weaknesses & acknowledge your mistakes This is sage advice but I would also add stay focused on your strengths rather than your weaknesses I believe that you will go farther

11. Recognize change & embrace it
12. Look to the future I think this point is of particular value as it feels like most things you see are of a negative connotation
13. “Lady Luck smiles on those who continue their efforts”  Sometimes being in the right place at the right time is extremely helpful but I am a believer that you can make your own luck
14. Remember that nothing is really new
15. Know when not to do anything
16. Pay attention to what everybody else neglects Classic contrarian play
17. If anybody laughs at your idea view it as a sign of potential success
