How to Avoid Burnout

One of our favorite bloggers James Altucher tackles a problem that I hear often from friends, family, clients and even strangers which is how burned out people feel.

As Altucher points out in his  post here, I have only found one way to avoid burnout which is to find something that you really love to do, something that you have a passion about.  However the great misconception with this idea is that you don't have bad days.  Quite the contrary.

Let's look at people's careers which is the likely source of burnout.  What may be your dream job could likely be a burnout job for the person that holds that job.  Take a professional athlete.  People may just see on the surface the fame, fortune, and status that being a pro athlete brings.  What they don't see is the amount of hours and hard work that has to go into preparing to be a pro athlete.  Most people would not likely want to put in that effort.

It's that very effort that we put into something and the possible outcomes that come about which drives us to a feeling of burnout or passion.  Try visualizing and aligning your efforts with what success looks like to you.  This is no different than what we tell our clients when they are putting together their financial and lifestyle goals.  Visualize what the outcomes look like, see what success will taste like, and then drive towards it with vigor and planning.
